Marcia Docherty, PhD is scholar practitioner with significant experience in professional education and health care service delivery. She has over 20 years of experience with competency-based education (CBE), primarily in the health field across colleges, universities, private career colleges, and health authorities. At the heart of her work is a commitment to innovative, evidence-informed teaching and learning practices through research and evaluation practices.

Marcia has extensive experience:
  • Teaching in and managing regulated, competency-based, and nationally accredited programs.
  • Leading numerous CBE course and program designs.
  • Participating in competency profile development.
  • Submitting national accreditation reports.
  • Surveying CBE programs for accreditation purposes. 

Through this extensive, combination of practical and research experience with CBE, she has developed a unique, pragmatic understanding of the strengths and limitations of this approach. She now examines professional competence holistically with the hope of mitigating CBE misuse and abuse.
